Melvin Eisenstadt graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1952. After working as an engineer in an oil refinery for about six months, his ROTC caught up with him and he became a communications officer in the Air Force for two years. During the second year, he was in charge of the group that provided electric power for a radar squadron in Korea.

After being honorably discharged. he went to graduate school, earned an MS, and worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry for four years. Then it was back to grad school at the University of Arizona to complete a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. He then spent about ten years as a faculty member at the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of Puerto Rico.

Next, Mel enrolled in law school at the University of New Mexico, received his degree and passed the bar in 1974. After practicing law for a year or two, he accepted a position as president of a solar energy company in Albuquerque. When the company went broke, he went back to practicing law. He was subsequently elected and re-elected as Municipal Judge of Corrales, New Mexico. He held that position for ten years while simultaneously practicing law, before retiring and writing fiction.

His previous publications include a textbook on materials science published by Macmillan. a novel entitled Navajo Afterglow published by Creative Arts Book Co., and a number of articles in engineering, scientific, and law journals. Several of these were concerned with solar energy. He was a national expert in the rather narrow field of solar energy law.

Mel has lectured on his books on various cruise lines since 2001. Hundreds of people have enjoyed these lectures.
